There’s something strangely attractive about the color of denim, possibly because it’s the fabric preferred by youth and the rugged men who pioneered the American West. We still associate that distinctive pale navy blue with wiry, healthy bodies and the possibilities of a happier future. Our hemstitched linen napkin in its signature denim color looks rough and rugged enough to accompany our memorable beef-and-bean 4^th of July cookout years ago, but the soft, strong, naturally antiseptic fabric is eminently suited to the most fastidious of lips. We use it to great effect for daytime outdoor feasts at our place, which is now as blessed by rich, bountiful olive groves as any oil-producing estate in France or Italy.
